Jumping

Well, it’s a done deal. I passed the background check, (table dancing arrest in Tex-ass aside), said YES in a formal way, and told the Airplane Factory I was out of there. You have to go online and “Self Terminate”, which is a little disconcerting.

I was pretty nervous about talking to my boss, Rasputin.

Rasputin has been a total dick lately which made this much easier.  Actually the conversation went fine. He didn’t get mad and was pretty supportive about my move. A little too supportive perhaps. I am giving him 3 weeks notice. Mostly because I have worked really hard to clean up the train wreck I inherited and I want it to stay cleaned up, but also he has to have surgery and he won’t be around after next week. I can’t start at the Foundation till the 18th so I may as well get paid for the duration. I will get 3 days off before I start.  Wow.  it just occurs to me that I will not be on call 24 x 7 anymore.  No more need to carry my stupid Blackberry around. Stupid Blackberry.

None of this has remotely begun to sink in yet.
.
I did get a request from my new manger for a short bio that he could share with the team. Here is what I wrote:

OrangeCloveHead comes to us from the Airplane Factory where he has worked for the last 4 and a half years as an Application Development Manager and Project Manager. OrangeCloveHead’s experience in the last several years has focused around agile software development. He is a certified Agile Scrum Master and certified Agile Product Owner. Most of his current employees feel strongly he is certifiable.

Prior to the airplane factory OrangeCloveHead worked as a Technical Program Manager at a large online retailed named after a large river. But mostly, really, OrangeCloveHead comes from the Mermaid where he spent 16 and half years as a program manager, project manager, help desk supervisor, and ever so briefly as a barista while he was giving his youth away to the Mermaid. OrangeCloveHead started at the Mermaid when he was 14.

When OrangeCloveHead is not working he obsesses about cooking and traveling, writes short stories, spends lots of money buying hip indie music, and listening to NPR . OrangeCloveHead will readily admit that his life has become somewhat meaningless since Buffy the Vampire Slayer went off the air.

OrangeCloveHead is very embarrassed that Mary Hart of Entertainment Tonight fame is his second cousin and will deny this fact at every opportunity.

OrangeCloveHead is very excited to be joining the Foundation.

Do I come off like a goon?

The new boss thought it was funny.

OK, off for 3 weeks of great fun…..
