I am home sick today. I am not homesick. I have not been on a plane in like 9 weeks or something unacceptable like that. No, I am home, sick. My body hurts. I am sneezing. I think I have a fever. I wonder if I should I freak out. The cable TV media crisis is telling me it is the end the world. I think I will just sit here and listen to NPR instead.
I am probably not dying. I haven't been to Mexico - or even New Mexico - for a couple years….come to think of it though I nearly died the last time I went to New Mexico. Got some horrible hantavirus or something. I think it’s just best to avoid all things Mexico.
Speaking of travel, I know I should finish up that last blog on my trip to the Big Island. But I am unmotivated and finding it difficult to blog these days. I have received openly hostile, soul crushing, and truly unsolicited feedback describing my limited writing skills.
But….actually…..as you all know, I do not have a soul. I think I will just get over my atheist self and start writing again.
That trip to the Big Island last month really was not relaxing. Hurricane force winds, wild fires, giant bugs, Republicans, mosquitoes, and of course the giant centipedes. And losing my drivers license. The beach was nice though. And the ahi. And flying first class. I really do need a vacation to get over that last vacation though. So guess what? I am going back! In three weeks! Ha! Shocking, I know.

Starting a new tradition, last year we bopped over to Honolulu for Memorial Day weekend. The Royal Hawaiian was closing for a big remodel and we had to go say goodbye to the Mai Tai bar. That was not the most fun vacation of all time. A certain hostile individual would not get off her god damn cell phone and even take a look at the amazing surroundings the whole time we were there.
Whatever, we had a life changing dinner at Nobu. How can I describe Nobu? I can’t really describe Nobu. I will let Yentl describe Nobu:
There are moments you remember all your life.
There are moments you wait for and dream of
all your life
This is one of those moments
I will always remember this chair
that window, the way the light streams in
The clothes I'm wearing
The words I'm hearing
The face I'm seeing
The feeling I'm feeling
The smell, the sounds, will be written
On my mind, will be written in my heart
As long as I live
Thank you Yentl. Yes, raw fish at Nobu is one of those out of body experiences like tartuffo in Italy, halloumi in London, magic potatoes in the south of France, and of course Beverly Gannon’s crab dip on Maui.
So this time it’s just me and Mark and we are only doing things we want to:
• Dinner at Nobu
• Doris Duke's shrine to Islamic art called Shangri La
• `Iolani Palace, the home of the Hawaiian Royal Family and seat of the Hawaiian government before the ancestors of George W Bush stole the sovereign nation
• Shopping trip to Chinatown to restock our supply of Sichuan peppercorns
• Spa day at the Halekulani!
• And of course, hours and hours of drinking Mai Tais at the newly reopened Royal Hawaiian.
Sounds like a perfect 3 night mini break to me!
More later…..
Oh, PS: If you don't like my writing, don't ready my blog.
